Moonlit forests, the glow of street lights and snow falling on watery depths are recurring themes in Steph’s atmospheric paintings. Process is important in her work. Sheapplies oil paint in a variety of consistencies, ranging from thin washes to areas of thicker impasto. Working from drawings, photographs and memory, many layers of oil paint are applied, scraped away and reapplied until the desired mood is achieved. The resulting landscapes are an emotional response to the experience of a particular place rather than a representation of a real view.

Steph is based at Wimbledon Art Studios in London. She originally trained as a ceramicist before developing painting as part of her creative practice via various courses at St Martins and the Slade.
